How to improve the battery health of your electric scooter

The Battery Health Score ranges from 0 to 100 and reflects the overall wear of your battery. A new scooter starts close to 100, and the score gradually changes based on how the battery is used and charged. You can check your Battery Health Score anytime in the NIU App:

How to Check Your Battery Health Score

  1. Open the NIU App
  2. Go to Vehicle
  3. Tap Battery Info
  4. Select Battery Score

Battery health is mainly influenced by charging habits, battery cycles, and temperature.

Good habits that help your battery last longer:

  • Charge regularly instead of fully draining the battery
  • Try to recharge when the battery is above 15–40%
  • Charge and store the battery between 0°C and 35°C — Electric Scooter Range in Cold Weather has more on how temperature affects performance
  • During long breaks, store the battery indoors and recharge it occasionally

Habits to avoid:

  • Letting the battery sit unused for long periods
  • Charging in very hot or freezing conditions
  • Frequently draining the battery to very low levels

Alongside your own charging habits, every NIU scooter includes a Battery Management System (BMS) that monitors each cell continuously and guards against overcharge, over-discharge, and temperature extremes automatically. Electric Moped Components Explained: Motor, Battery, BMS and ECU goes into more detail on how the BMS works alongside these habits.

Healthy charging habits can slow down battery wear, improve reliability, and even help maintain or increase your Battery Health Score over time.

A little care goes a long way — for longer battery life and more worry-free electric miles ⚡
